In nearly every family, there’s a sibling who marches to the beat of his or her own drum. That’s the case with the Custom Line 100. When you look at the Custom Line 100 alongside the Custom Line 124, 112 Next, and 97, there is some family familiarity. However, this new megayacht exerts her independence with more aggressive styling and other features all her own.
The full Custom Line model lineup bears the design work of Studio Zuccon International Project. Advanced Yacht Technology (AYT) and Centro Stile Ferretti Group, both owned by Custom Line’s parent company, further had input on the Custom Line 100. Because Custom Line has been attracting a younger demographic, the design teams wanted the new megayacht to be racier, without straying too far. Gianni Zuccon, head of Studio Zuccon International Projects, explains, “On the one hand, we had to show that the new product was actually part of a ‘design family’ which has reinforced its characteristics and distinctiveness over the years; and on the other, to demonstrate the need to innovate, bringing linguistic, functional and technological solutions in line with the continuous process of research and experimenting within the design field.”
Another difference between the Custom Line 100 and her sisters is the broader beam forward. The designers wanted more space within the main-deck master suite (pictured), yet they also wanted the crew to have good on-deck access. As a result, the master suite is comfortably laid out. For the crew, the side decks flow forward to about amidships, then meet stairs that rise up over the master suite. They’re then in proximity to the wheelhouse and the foredeck, where an additional seating/alfresco dining spot awaits the owner and guests. While these aren’t traditional walk-around decks, they do show that Custom Line and the designers are mindful of the needs of the crew.
Of course, Custom Line also remains focused on the comfort of guests. The selection of warm, rich canaletto walnut for cabinetry, oak for soles, and thoroughly contemporary furnishings creates a chic atmosphere. The saloon and dining area are open to one another, in keeping with what most builders with offerings in this size range do. If owners so wish, they can opt for sliding doors outboard in the saloon that permit access to the fold-down balcony. In a departure from other Italian builders, though, the Custom Line 100 situates the galley directly adjacent to the dining area. American buyers—and any crewmembers tired of walking up and down stairs to catch up with dumbwaiters carrying trays—will particularly like this.
Also sure to be appreciated are the four guest staterooms below decks. Each has a good-size port to bring in natural light.
