Oyster Marine, with yacht construction, brokerage, and refit operations based in the UK, is now owned by Germany-based HTP Investments.
HTP Investments, founded in 1990, acquires, restructures, and consolidates companies. With holdings mostly in the automotive sector, HTP Investments looks to grow the activities of its portfolio companies through organic expansion and additional acquisitions.
While the acquisition sum was not disclosed, the money came solely from HTP Investments’ two partners, Wim de Pundert and Klaas Meertens. This is in keeping with HTP Investments’ typical strategy. “For myself and Wim, this is a personal acquisition and a long-term investment,” Meerten says. He adds that he and Pundert plan to keep Oyster’s CEO, David Tydeman, in place.
Oyster Marine is comprised of both new-construction and brokerage divisions. Twelve new-construction models are presently offered, with the Oyster 100 (pictured) and Oyster 125 being the sole megayacht models. The company is further comprised of Southampton Yacht Services, which builds some of the large Oyster yacht projects and performs refit work for a variety of clients. It’s perhaps best known for the restoration of the J-Class yacht Velsheda from 1997 to 1998.
The new ownership structure should bolster Oyster Marine’s existing plans to celebrate its 40th anniversary next year. Among the activities set to mark the milestone are a world rally starting in January, where 30 Oyster yachts will depart from the Caribbean.
