Hacker-Craft Neiman Marcus Edition Available

Since 1908 the mahogany runabouts built by Hacker-Craft in upstate New York have been coveted by yachtsmen, including megayacht owners, around the world. No wonder, then that the famed department store Neiman Marcus selected a Hacker-Craft to be a Fantasy Gift in its annual Christmas catalog. You’re looking at the result, the Hacker-Craft Neiman Marcus Edition. Already, at least one megayacht owner is eyeing her as a tender.

The idea of being in the catalog came from Hacker-Craft’s president and CEO, George Badcock, well over a year ago. He was inspired while watching a TV report in 2010 about The Christmas Book, the name of the annual Neiman Marcus catalog. Hacker-Craft’s team approached Neiman Marcus early last year… but it wasn’t easy. After many, many months of petitioning, hearing nothing back, it finally paid off: The store’s corporate team requested further details, then confirmed the boat made the final cut. A good thing, for more than the obvious reason, as Hacker-Craft had started building a boat in anticipation of being accepted. But, Hacker-Craft had to keep the project confidential until the new catalog came out this past Christmas. To ensure that none of the craftspeople would know what they were working on, Hacker-Craft code named the project the “Marc Newman” boat, a play on the Neiman Marcus name.

The fully customized Hacker-Craft Neiman Marcus edition has several singular features. A gold-leaf waterline, applied by hand, nicely complements a rich, violet bottom. That violent tone is picked up by the piping on the cream-upholstered seating in the cockpit and the bow’s burgee. A sterling silver plaque on the dashboard spells out her significance, as do several monogrammed items. There are monogrammed crystal decanters, glassware, towels, and napkins. There’s even a monogrammed humidor. Underwater lights and a GPS further distinguish the Hacker-Craft Neiman Marcus edition.

Making the boat even more special, for each Hacker-Craft Neiman Marcus edition sold, the store will donate $3,000 to the Double H Ranch. The Double H Ranch provides camp experiences and support for families with children suffering from life-threatening illnesses.
