April Fool’s Day will be anything but for the new owner of Virginia. He’ll have his new Horizon megayacht in his hands by then.
Seen here on sea trials on a rather gloomy day, Virginia is a Horizon E84 model, featuring the Open Bridge layout. (Horizon also offers a Skylounge and Cockpit version of the megayacht.) Like all Horizon launches, Virginia was customized to the owner’s requests. Besides being a bit longer in LOA than most E84s—89’6” (27.3 meters), vs. 85 feet (25.91 meters) —Virginia also has a far different interior arrangement. There’s a mahjong room fully forward on the main deck, for example. The dedicated mahjong table here can be converted into a customary table, ideal for the coffee bar also installed in the room. The saloon and dining area are also larger, as a result of relocating the galley below decks. The extra space will be put to good use, thanks to a karaoke machine linked to the large-screen TV and home-theater system.
Otherwise Virginia doesn’t break with tradition. She’s powered by twin 1,550-hp MANs that should permit an 18-knot cruise and 22-knot top speed. The owner, who was quite involved in the design thanks to having an office in Taiwan, requested maple, bird’s-eye maple, and wenge for paneling, all having tones that nicely accentuate the 20-foot (6.1-meter) beam. All staterooms are below decks, comprised of three guest cabins and the master suite. You can spot the master suite in the sea-trial photo by locating the H-shape port. The owner and guests also get alfresco dining to enjoy on the hardtop-shaded flying bridge. If the owner invites a good-size crowd aboard, the dinghy that can be stowed aft can instead be placed on the aft deck.
