Marking its third model in three years, China’s IAG Yachts has signed a contract for a 135-footer (41-meter).
While delivery won’t be until springtime in 2014, the megayacht already has a name that some of you may recognize: King Baby. Both yacht aficionados and jewelry fans alike will recognize the name, in fact. The owners commissioned the 100-foot King Baby built by Hargrave Custom Yachts in 2009 and still enjoy time aboard. They’re also the founders of the same-named jewelry company, featuring bold, edgy designs favored by rock and pop stars.
While the current King Baby is adorned with photos of some of those same stars, there’s no word yet on what the interior of the new King Baby will look like. However, the owners will be intimately involved, working with REDS, an Italy-based firm. For now, we know the all-fiberglass megayacht will feature five staterooms, plus three crew cabins and a captain’s cabin. The master suite should be particularly special, given “groundbreaking” headroom, according to IAG Yachts. Beam will be a little over 29 feet (9 meters), which should make the formal dining area on the main deck and the skylounge, among other areas, comfortable. King Baby will also have walkaround decks, lined in teak, to make the crew’s job easier. Anticipated top speed is 21 knots, given twin MTUs. The RINA-classed King Baby will also be offered for charter.
