The third time’s the charm at Icon Yachts. Last week the Dutch shipyard launched its third megayacht based on its 63-meter platform, christened Maidelle. Specifically, the megayacht measures 62.5 meters, or 205 feet.
Being delivered this summer, Maidelle bears styling from Redman Whiteley Dixon and naval architecture by Icon’s own Jouke van der Baan. Maidelle has a few notable features. There’s a two-deck master suite, in keeping with the owner’s desire for good-size private spaces. However, the owner also wanted spacious entertainment areas where he could join friends and family. That explains the direct access from the master suite to the bridge-deck saloon, which boasts panoramic views. The main saloon is certainly spacious, given its 56-foot (17-meter) length and Maidelle’s 37’4” (11.4-meter) beam.
Maidelle’s interior design is by Cristiano Gatto Design, who previously collaborated with Icon on Midlandia. Photos have not been released, but renderings on Icon’s website show an emphasis on the warm, rich tones of a few woods. Ebony, mahogany, rosewood, and walnut canaletto are used for furnishings, paneling, and soles. They’re complemented by stonework adorning some soles and countertops. Also notable is the selection of citronwood (sometimes called sandarac) for the interior of closets. Citronwood is touted for its durability and, of course, its fragrance.
Maidelle, further featuring an 11’8” (3.6-meter) draft, will meet Lloyds and MCA requirements.
UPDATE, MAY 23, 2012: Maidelle underwent sea trials this week. Jen Wartena, Icon Yachts’ managing director, says the megayacht performed without any problems. Here are some photos taken during the trials:
