Project California, a spec superyacht set for completion this June from Heesen Yachts now has an owner.
Part of Heesen’s 47m series, the 153-foot megayacht is styled by Omega Architects, with a bulbous-bow-equipped steel hull designed in-house. The code name Project California stems from Bannenberg & Rowell’s interior design scheme. The designers envisioned and executed furnishings and other accessories echoing the casual California vibe from the 1940s and ‘50s. Different decks take on different interpretations of California, such as Palm Springs (lower deck), Hollywood (main deck), and Malibu (upper deck). Throughout the main deck, for example, rich details like a backlit marble wall combine with informal ones like bleached wenge soles and white elm paneling. A more mid-tone wenge is used along with these two woods throughout the other decks as well, mixed together on floors and doors. Bannenberg & Rowell drew their inspiration for the combination from a surfboard made of all three woods.
Speaking of surfboards, there should also be a surfboard motif in the custom carpeting on the main deck, if the owner is preserving all elements of the original design.
Bearing a 28’10” (8.83-meter) beam and 10’1” (3.08-meter) draft, Project California should see a 15-knot top speed. Power comes from twin 1,341-hp MTU 8V 4000 M63 diesels. Heesen Yachts anticipates a 4,000-nautical-mile range at 12 knots.
