During the debut of its Electra 100 (pictured) at the Hainan Rendezvous in April, IAG Yachts signed a deal for a second one to be built.
The first Electra 100, measuring 101’7″ (31 meters) LOA, was commissioned by a buyer from China; no word on the nationality of the owner of the second Electra 100, which will measure 103’7″ (31.6 meters) due to an extended stern. Regardless, other builders might want to take note of the way IAG Yachts presented the megayacht to potential clients. The company hosted a cruise for invited VIPs, complete with the chance to enjoy karaoke and try products from two high-end consumer companies. One was Mobiado, a mobile-phone manufacturer known for adorning its goods with crystals, brass, and other luxe touches. The other was Hasselblad, which supplied some of its professional video cameras (which can cost more than $10,000) so that guests could shoot memories of their cruise. Partnerships like this are a regular occurrence in other luxury sectors, so it’s a natural fit for the megayacht market.
The Electra 100 bears design work by Andrea Nicolai and YD&AS, the same team that created IAG Yachts’ first megayacht, Primadonna, in 2010. Interior decor is open to owner input, though the space configurations of the raised-pilothouse motoryacht are set. You’ll find some traditional layout elements as well as novel ones. To the former, the master and three guest staterooms are below decks, as are three crew cabins. The master stateroom and VIP stateroom are each full beam. As to the novel layout ideas, there’s a formal separate dining room, rather than a combination saloon-dining area. Few megayachts in the Electra 100’s size range take this approach. A further nice touch: an elegant bar just inside the aft-deck doors in the saloon.
Other highlights of the Electra 100 include 8’2”-high (2.5-meter-high) ceilings in the saloon, making for a voluminous feel. It’s complemented by nearly floor-to-ceiling windows to each side. The RINA-classed Electra 100 also has a 22’3” (6.8-meter) beam and four-foot (1.3-meter) draft. She’s said to top out around 26 knots and cruise at 21 knots, powered by twin MTU 12V2000 M93s. At 22 knots, she should see a range of 700 nautical miles.
