Florida-based Michael Peters Yacht Design is known for innovative design. So, it makes sense that a new American company, Nouvoyage, would tap the firm’s expertise for an equally innovative idea. It’s the Nouvoyage Limousine Tender 33, an amphibious limo that looks every bit a custom limo tender.
Massachusetts-based Nouvoyage is new to the megayacht business. However, it has done extensive research, both into yachting and amphibious craft. I met Martin Bodley, CEO of Nouvoyage, at the Fort Lauderdale boat show, where he described the goals for the Nouvoyage Limousine Tender 33. He knew the way to capture a megayacht owner’s attention was with a truly different luxury item. Given the popularity of custom limo tenders, why not provide one that can also travel on land—straight to their jet, or elsewhere? Bodley also knew that traditionally, amphibious craft have had reliability issues. Working with Michael Peters Yacht Design is one way for the Nouvoyage Limousine Tender 33 to counter that. Another is drawing on proven commercial, military, and racing engineering and design. Further noteworthy, Nouvoyage has patented technology simplifying the amphibious mechanical systems for the Nouvoyage Limousine Tender 33.
The Nouvoyage Limousine Tender 33 measures 33 feet (10 meters), with an 8’6” (2.6-meter) beam. Fiberglass construction will keep weight down and permit good speed, even on land. On the water, it should see a 28-knot top end. On land, it should hit 85 mph. Each Nouvoyage Limousine Tender 33 will meet U.S. Coast Guard and CE standards for water use, plus requisite automotive standards. Stowed aboard a megayacht, the Limousine Tender 33 should stand 7’6” (about 2.3 meters).
Nouvoyage is permitting some customization in terms of outfitting. Regardless, seating for 12 plus two crew, gullwing doors, and a removable cockpit roof and windows are standard. When the Limousine Tender 33 hits the land, the gullwing doors reveal automatically deploying stairs. Power will come courtesy of proven marine and commercial land applications. A single Yanmar diesel takes care of things on the water. Remy, a major supplier of electric and hybrid motors for large vehicles, will do the trick on land, with diesel-electric drivelines.
