Having already garnered a high profile among yacht and megayacht owners since opening in 2009, Porto Montenegro is planning on having 490 berths, double its current availability, by mid-2014.
The expansion is not a new development. Indeed, Porto Montenegro’s developers envisioned various phases of slip roll-outs. The increase in the marina’s capacity from the present 245 berths to 490 is considered phase two. More than 50 total berths will be for megayachts measuring 148 feet (45 meters) and larger. The smallest current (and future) berth is just 39 feet (12 meters).
When the expansion is completed, Porto Montenegro will be one of the largest marinas in the Med. It’s in the Bay of Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage site, in Tivat, Montenegro. It will additionally have among the most megayacht berths worldwide.
Besides being attracted to the beauty of the region, featuring hills and an ancient walled city, megayacht owners and crew alike are taking to Porto Montenegro for its on-site customs and immigration services. The marina further offers duty-free fuel and a lower VAT on marine services. Residences ring the waterfront, as do dining and shopping options. Coming soon: a maintenance and refit facility.
