A European client has named his new Sunreef Yachts catamaran Levante. With a 5’9″ (1.8-meter) draft, she’s the first in the Polish builder’s 80 Carbon Line series, intended as a performance sailing cat. Here’s a look at her ahead of her debut at September’s Cannes Boat Show.
Levante follows the pattern of some previous Sunreef megayacht catamarans in having a large flying bridge, featuring sunning, dining, and driving spaces. But, the helm up here, as well as the one inside, displays load data for the carbon fiber rig, thanks to 12 load pins on the mast and rigging. (Total sail area is about 3,660 square feet, or 340 square meters.) This way, Levante’s captain can ensure the catamaran is making the most of her capabilities without being pushed too far. Sunreef Yachts’ headquarters receive the same data in real time and plan to use it to develop future rigs, particularly for performance-oriented buyers.
As for Levante’s performance, she’s intended to cruise in both light and heavy air and should see 15-knot cruising speeds. Sunreef Yachts says the megayacht can max out around 20 knots. Vectran fabric is employed for the mainsail and genoa, a material touted for durability and used by several other performance sailing yachts. The gennaker is comprised of Cuben Fiber fabric, a lightweight, non-woven material commonly found on large multi-hulls.
As straightforward as Levante’s sailplan is, so, too, is her interior layout. The saloon, dining area, and inside helm are all open to one another, making you quite aware of the 38-foot (11.6-meter) beam. Your eyes might deceive you into thinking this is a black and white photo, but it’s just the mostly white, grey, and black color scheme.
The megayacht’s master suite is tucked just to starboard of the helm, so it, too, is on the main deck and benefits from the forward ports. To keep the space from feeling cramped, and to make use of available space in the starboard hull, the dressing area and en suite bath are down a few steps.
The owner’s children should get a real kick out of their cabin, located in the starboard-side hull. It has bunk berths inboard and another twin berth situated slightly aft. It also has an en suite bath, just like the double guest stateroom a few paces down the hall. Yet another guest stateroom is in the port-side hull.
Four crew can be accommodated aboard Levante, all housed below to port. They’re housed in two cabins that flank the galley. If you look to the far end of the galley, you’ll see a benchseat, which serves as the crew mess when a table extends from opposite of it.
Sunning, lounging, dining, and relaxing: Those are the activities that every Sunreef owner enjoys, and the ones that each of its catamarans, including Levante, offer on the aft deck. It’s the ideal spot from which to enjoy an anchorage, after-dinner cocktails, and more.
