Now this is what we call a big splash. Project Orchid, one of several megayachts under construction at Lürssen, launched the old-fashioned way last week.
Despite the name, the megayacht is not the same as a concept project created by Luiz De Basto and Lürssen that was unveiled in 2010. Rather, this Orchid bears styling and interior design by Reymond Langton Design and is larger, coming in at 296’6” (91 meters). Beam is a healthy 47 feet (14.35 meters).
The owner has requested only minimal details be divulged at this point. Features of the massive megayacht include the customary beach club, a spa, and balconies off two guest staterooms. The overall interior decor will also have contemporary accents.
We’ll have to wait until 2015 to see her completed. In the meantime, to put her LOA into perspective, consider this: If Project Orchid were delivered today, she would “only” be in the top 50 when it comes to the world’s largest yachts.
