A classic-looking 105’8” (32.25-meter) motoryacht is the newest model being built by Benetti Sail Division, an Italian shipyard whose name hints at its origins yet is completely independent.
Established in 1978, Benetti Sail Division was indeed a sailing-yacht arm of the famed Benetti shipyard. It was taken private and independent three years later, remaining focused on sailing yachts until the mid-1980s, turning then to motoryacht refits. Benetti Sail Division (BSD) changed course again in the 1990s, focusing on new-construction fiberglass yachts. Later that decade it added steel and aluminum yachts, which remain the primary focus today.
The 105’8” megayacht just signed, brokered by Whyko Company, is the first of the BSD 105 series, intended for 12 people in the owner’s party and a crew of five plus the captain. A 23-foot (7.2-meter) beam should translate to comfortable accommodations, and a draft of 7’4” (2.25 meters) is adequate for most anchorages. The latter is particularly welcome news, since the owner intends the megayacht to be a floating home. Anticipated range is 1,900 miles at nearly 13 knots and an even better 3,000 miles at 10 knots. Twin 1,000-hp MANs should permit an approximate 14-knot top end under one-third load.
Similar to other BSD offerings, the BSD 105 has a canoe stern and will be classed to RINA. Sound and vibration attenuation are also priorities, with the shipyard pledging sound levels from the mid-50s to the low 60s throughout the yacht. For comparison, 65 decibels is the level of normal conversation.
