Superyacht Lifestyle Miami, a megayacht-only event coinciding with the Miami International Boat Show in February, has been postponed until 2015.
Superyacht Lifestyle Miami was initially set for February 13 to 16 at Museum Park (pictured), on Biscayne Bay. The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), which represents the overall recreational boating industry in North America, created it with input from a handful of other organizations. When Superyacht Lifestyle Miami was announced last fall, Thom Dammrich, NMMA’s president, explained that both NMMA members (some of whom are megayacht companies) and the multiple superyacht-specific organizations were keenly interested in attracting more high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth consumers to the yachting lifestyle. The postponement is the result of needing more time to accommodate interested exhibitors and sponsors. The NMMA also wishes to attend more global forums to learn more about how to meet needs. “NMMA has made this strategic decision to best fulfill expectations of forging relationships between the superyacht industry and luxury brand categories,” Dammrich says. “As we continue working alongside superyacht builders, brokers and industry groups, and attend global forums and meetings, we are directly asking the industry what it needs and how we can use our team to fulfill those needs. We believe our Superyacht Lifestyle Miami event will be enhanced by these efforts.”
The postponement of Superyacht Lifestyle Miami does not mean that the NMMA is abandoning the megayacht sector. Rather, the NMMA is continuing to collaborate with megayacht builders, brokers, and other industry representatives on a number of fronts. For example, the NMMA lobbies U.S. Congress people to protect the megayacht industry against onerous regulations. It participates in the creation of ISO standards, as well as other international technical requirements. In addition, the NMMA is helping to develop export opportunities for U.S.-based businesses.
Once Superyacht Lifestyle Miami is rescheduled, we will have details. We’ll also have details on some of the other initiatives mentioned above.
