UPDATE, FEBRUARY 5, 2014: Athens Marina is the newest member of The 1782 Club. Located near Piraeus, Greece, Athens Marina can accommodate megayachts to 426 feet (130 meters), having hosted several of the world’s largest yachts over the past 10 years. Read on for the original story about The 1782 Club.
Camper & Nicholsons Marinas wants to enhance the experiences of its high-end clientele, especially in new regions. It also wants to build a network of its own and independently owned, high-end marinas. That’s the thinking behind The 1782 Club.
Officially rolling out next month, The 1782 Club is so named for the year Camper & Nicholsons’ first shipyard was founded. The 1782 Club will initially feature mostly Mediterranean and Caribbean destinations. Porto Montenegro, for example, is the first independent marina to sign on. Some marinas in current and emerging destinations are also in negotiations. They’re in the Indian Ocean, the Middle East, North and South America, and Southeast Asia.
To be clear, The 1782 Club will permit its independent member marinas to remain exactly that, independently owned. They’ll be in geographically non-competitive areas in comparison to Camper & Nicholsons Marinas existing properties. The latter are Limassol Marina in Cyprus, Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi, Porto San Rocco in Italy, Grand Harbour Marina in Malta (pictured), Cesme Marina in Turkey, and Port Louis Marina in Grenada.
So what are the specific benefits of The 1782 Club? Clients visiting Camper & Nicholsons Marinas properties will learn about berthing, real estate, and additional opportunities at the other marinas. They’ll be encouraged to cruise among all the properties. A loyalty program is being created for The 1782 Club, too. Yacht and megayacht owners, their captains, and crew will be welcome to participate. The 1782 Club loyalty program will include privileges based on participation. No details are available yet. However, Camper & Nicholsons Marinas says The loyalty program benefits should surpass those of similar setups.
The benefits for the independent marinas in The 1782 Club make sense, too. They’ll be able to participate in cross-promotional initiatives. They can tap the corporate marketing knowledge. And The 1782 Club will let them tap Camper & Nicholsons Marinas’ experience in designing and operating marinas.
