Two American megayacht firms are teaming up to bring four designs to U.S. buyers. Front Street Shipyard plans to build versions of the New American Motoryachts developed by Setzer Yacht Architects. LOAs for these megayachts range from 92 to 131 feet (28 to 40 meters).
Last summer, Setzer Yacht Architects began promoting a new megayacht series, called the New American Motoryachts, to U.S. buyers. It’s comprised of more than a dozen designs based on classic American yacht styles, like commuters, raised pilothouses, and tridecks. JB Turner, president of Front Street Shipyard, met with Ward Setzer, principal of Setzer Yacht Architects, that season to preview the designs. Turner saw similarities between Setzer’s work and feedback he’d been getting from owners and industry representatives alike. “Setzer’s New American Motoryacht series represents the direction we at Front Street Shipyard see the U.S. superyacht industry moving,” Turner says. Therefore, the motoryacht series with Front Street Shipyard is based on the New American Motoryachts. “JB had an opportunity to handpick a few concepts that he thought would be great matches for Front Street Shipyard’s customers,” Setzer says. Setzer and his design team amended them based on Turner’s comments and further research.
Pictured is one of the Front Street Shipyard and Setzer Yacht Architects offerings. She’s the Vintage Tri-Deck, measuring 131 feet. The nearly vertical bow is certainly a vintage element. It’s also appearing a bit more regularly in modern designs, however. And that blend of old and new is what sets the New American Motoryachts apart. Setzer Yacht Architects freshened up the time-honored designs with modern must-haves. These include large ports and tender hatches. Further noteworthy, guest and crew traffic flow are simplified.
The versions of the New American Motoryachts from Front Street Shipyard embrace all of these ideas. Interested megayacht owners will also benefit from more natural light inside, offices equipped with proper communications tech, and abundant alfresco areas. Besides the Vintage Tri-Deck, they include a 92-foot (28-meter) Modern Commuter, 112-foot (24-meter) Flushdeck RPH, and a 125-foot (38-meter) Modern Explorer. The smaller megayachts can be arranged for owner-operators and even pod propulsion.
