Hull number two of the Perini Navi 38m Racing Line is under construction. For now she’s simply known as C.2130, her project number. LOA: 124’7” (38 meters, as the model name states). She’s part of the same series as P2, which was delivered in 2008.
The Racing Line blends spirited performance, especially for regattas, with customary custom-yacht features. As to the former, this Perini Navi 38m Racing Line sloop will have systems comparable to other competitors. These include a carbon fiber furling boom, plus carbon fiber in the standing rigging and spreaders. If you follow Perini Navi closely, you’ll recall that the 197-foot (60-meter) Seahawk, delivered last year, was its first sailing superyacht with carbon fiber standing rigging. Perini Navi is also making three semi-automatic electric captive winches for the new project. The goal is to allow a relatively small crew operate her during races. Combined with lightweight aluminum for the hull and superstructure, the Perini Navi 38m Racing Line sloop should displace 160 tons.
For creature comforts, the Perini Navi 38m Racing Line sloop will feature design details by the builder’s in-house team. Perini Navi has not divulged details on accommodations, but it’s easy to imagine that the sloop will have two guest cabins accompanying the master. That’s the setup aboard P2—though Perini Navi does say the layout will differ from that of P2. Regardless, the Perini Navi 38m Racing Line sloop marks a notable first for the builder. She’ll employ batteries, not gensets, for night-time electrical loads. Perini Navi terms the setup a “Silent Night” system.
Delivery of this second Perini Navi 38m Racing Line sloop is set for 2015. She’ll join more than four dozen sailing-yacht deliveries to date from the Italian yard.
