Sixteen months from now, owners will be taking delivery of a Limited Editions Amels 180 just signed last month.
The Amels 180 is one of a few Limited Editions platforms from the Dutch builder. She’s also the smallest, with the largest Limited Editions being the Amels 272. Each is based on a set engineering platform and styling package. This shortens build time and yields more control over some costs. Interiors are still open to owner input, as are some amenities like balconies. As Rob Luijendijk, Amels CEO, puts it, “Our trusted Limited Editions platform eliminates technical risk and allows the owners to focus on customizing the ‘fun parts.’” You may recall that Engelberg, from 2013, and Step One, from 2012, were the first Amels 180 deliveries.
This Amels 180 resulted from the clients being attracted to a swift delivery time. Amels is guaranteeing delivery in May 2015. The owners are still finalizing the general arrangement. However, so far they’ve requested a balcony in the master suite plus port and starboard balconies off the saloon. All three are fold-down affairs. The customary beach club gets formed when the transom is opened and tenders are offloaded. However, there will also be a steam room in here. The Amels 180 is intended for an owner’s party of 12, with 12 crewmembers and the captain, an enviable crew-to-guest ratio.
Christian Liaigre is working with the owners for interior design. This Amels 180 marks his first project at the shipyard, too.
Alfresco features aboard the Amels 180 include both shaded and sunny deck areas. The uppermost deck has good space devoted to loose lounges that doubles as a touch-and-go helipad.
An 11-foot (3.38-meter) draft complements a hull meant for displacement speeds. The Amels 180 should cruise at 13 knots and top out at 15½ knots. At cruise, she should see a 4,500-nautical-mile range.
