Since its release in 2013, the Megayacht News app has been updated each month to include new features. Here’s a look at what’s just been added:
Royal Huisman’s Wisp (pictured). The Gallery tab is the most popular feature of the Megayacht News app, and for good reason. With about a dozen photo galleries, each containing 10 to 12 images, it’s tailor-made for the mobile world. The 12-photo showcase of Wisp is one of two new Gallery showcases. It lets you appreciate this superyacht sloop’s classic design elements and quality craftsmanship. In fact, she’s considered “revivalist architecture” by her builder, Royal Huisman, and naval architect, Hoek Design. Inside, the 156-foot (48-meter) Wisp has lovely, honey-stained oak and other light-tone decor elements selected by Rhoades Young Design. This creates a “jolly” ambiance, to use the owner’s words. Wisp was commissioned as a home away from home, and to occasionally participate in friendly regattas. She cruised Norway and the Western Med after delivery last spring before heading to the Caribbean for her first winter season.
Classic Yacht Models. We’ve been fans of the talented Maine-based artist Rob Eddy for some time, for the exquisite yacht models that he hand crafts over tens of thousands of hours. Like the yachts he replicates, straight from their original naval-architecture drawings and photographs he personally takes when he visits each yacht, he uses high-quality materials, like mahogany and gold. The owners of Maltese Falcon, Atlantide, and other famous yachts are fans, too, having commissioned Classic Yacht Models to create scale replicas for them. These, and other models, are showcased in the Gallery tab, too. Wait ‘til you see the painstaking detail Eddy devotes to propellers, winches, and additional gear.
Marinas. A few weeks ago, we added an entirely new feature to the app, this being a Marinas directory. It’s now complete, broken down into regional categories. You’ll find The Americas (North America, Central America, and South America), The Mediterranean, United Kingdom, Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
The Megayacht News app is available free from the App Store and Google Play.
