The most talked-about megayacht at the Yacht & Brokerage Show earlier this month in Miami wasn’t even in the show. She was Khalilah, the sparkling-gold, radically different design from Palmer Johnson.
Khalilah is the first Palmer Johnson 48 SuperSport, meant to break with convention in terms of both performance and style. The carbon composite construction reduces weight by a reported 50 percent versus the yard’s usual build material, that being aluminum. Furthermore, the lower weight and sponsons-equipped, wavepiercer hull form are said to boost fuel efficiency (by 50 percent), stability, and speed. Top end for Khalilah is reported around 30 knots.
Flanking her saloon, Khalilah has two of the biggest panes of glass you’ll see on any yacht today. Even the wheelhouse benefits from big glass, purposely lacking central mullions for better visibility underway.
Skylights, beamy accommodations, and clever space utilization inside and out make Khalilah even more noteworthy. We’ll have a Megayacht News Onboard feature in a few weeks. For now, get a better look at her in these two videos.
Here’s a drone-eye view of Khalilah taken during the yacht show:
