Three years in the planning, the Oyster 118 will soon see layup start. She marks the 358th yacht that Oyster Yachts and Humphreys Yacht Design will have brought to fruition.
Oyster Yachts is assembling the tooling for the project now. Construction on the Oyster 118 should start next month, for completion in early 2018. In addition, the builder is adding another construction hall at its Southampton, UK facility to allow hull number two to start soon. This way, the first four Oyster 118s should be on the water within the next five years.
If you’re an Oyster fan, you’ll recognize the family styling in this new model. There are, however, a few features solely her own. The Oyster 118 has a hardtop whose sides can further be enclosed, for example. That makes the guest cockpit an extension of the interior. Considering the yacht will already have about 7,535 square feet (700 square meters) of interior relaxation space, it’s a nice addition. You and 11 guests can spread out in comfort, attended to by six crew.
Oyster invites buyers to put their own imprint on arrangements. Hull number two is a blank slate, available for £13 million (about $19.05 million at press time), excluding VAT. You can even request the optional squared stern, which adds about another three feet (one meter) to the overall length. As for hull number one of the Oyster 118, the shipyard already has a general arrangement and interior design package. You might just be inspired by some of the ideas. Five staterooms and four heads are all below decks. Another room forward down here will be a convertible kids’ cabin/TV lounge. Throughout the yacht, mirrored surfaces will help brighten the ambiance.
Surely you’ll want to spend much of your time outside, however. Therefore, the Oyster 118 prioritizes alfresco dining, in the guest cockpit. A forward observation/relaxation area is ideal for watching approaching shores come into view. It covers the tender hatch, which conceals a nine-person Dieseljet RIB stows in the foredeck. Use the tender to go diving (a dive compressor can go in the lazarette) or poking around skinny-water shores. Back onboard, the crew can deploy the fold-out transom for swimming. Humphreys Yacht Design has designed the Oyster 118’s transom with auto-deploying handrails and steps.
If you like taking a hand in operations, note that hull number one will feature a single headstay. There’ll also be a removable inner forestay for the jib, plus asymmetrics tacking to the anchor strut prodder. Oyster and Humphreys Yacht Design created a mid-boom, single-point mainsheet that passes through the hardtop. It then runs down through a see-through (and carbon fiber-reinforced) saloon bulkhead. Buyers of the Oyster 118 can further request up to four captive winches.
You and your crew will additionally appreciate stand-up headroom in the engine room; the space has a gullwing escape hatch leading out on deck.
