UPDATE, MAY 23, 2019: Stella del Nord has a new owner, and he’s quite high profile. Andrea Bocelli, the renowned singer, just acquired her. What’s more, he closed the deal in time to cruise to Naples, Italy, for a performance last night. While the megayacht reportedly faced rough seas, she arrived in plenty of time for the concert.

The latest explorer megayacht from Cantiere delle Marche has officially been christened. Stella del Nord, a Darwin Class 86 model, builds on the previous deliveries in the series. She does so by featuring a few changes instituted by the owners and the Italian build and design team alike.
Some of the new features driven by Cantiere delle Marche and Hydro Tec, her naval architect, include things you can and can’t see. For example, she has larger ports. In fact, Stella del Nord has wider main- and upper-deck windows, something nearly every build and design team is instituting these days. With the owners’ surveyor, Cantiere delle Marche further upgraded the central-air system aboard, plus improved the painting process.
In addition, Stella del Nord’s interior configuration is a bit different, with full-beam VIP and master staterooms. Predominantly light tones are aboard, via natural elm and white-painted wood panels plus travertine marble. A departure from the theme, though, comes in the wheelhouse, outfitted in mahogany.
Since the owners enjoy being outside, the sundeck aboard Stella del Nord includes dining, lounging, and cooking areas, along with a bar and additional helm. Overall, the sundeck encompasses 431 square feet (40 square meters).
Making the christening a little more special, Percheron, the second and arguably most famous Darwin Class 86, was on hand. (Why most famous? Percheron has put 23,000 nautical miles under her hull since delivery two years ago.) The crew of Percheron blew their horns after the traditional bottle of champagne broke across the bow of Stella del Nord. You can see Percheron in the background to the right in the photo just above.
A few weeks after hand over, Stella del Nord will make her boat-show debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September. She’ll dock alongside the first Darwin Class 107, Storm, and the first Nauta Air 90, Noga.
