Talk about a project years in the making. The owner of Storm was the first client to contact the newly established Cantiere delle Marche back in 2010, and spent three years researching and consulting others before signing a contract. The result is the first Darwin Class 107, the largest megayacht thus far from the Italian shipyard.
The comments regarding the client, who’s from England, come from Vasco Buonpensiere, the sales and marketing manager for Cantiere delle Marche. He adds that the owner of Storm previously owned and frequently cruised aboard a yacht built in Northern Europe, a region known for quality construction.
Storm should see her owner and his family spend more than six months each year onboard. Due to this, the client and his captain requested a number of custom setups, extending to systems such as the thrusters. Consider, too, that Storm has exceptional volume for her LOA (107 feet, or 32.6 meters): 300 gross tons. That, with the 25’3” (7.7-meter) beam, should make the extensive travel planned more comfortable. As a Darwin Class megayacht, Storm is engineered for this type of cruising. She incorporates many of the practices that Cantiere delle Marche applied to previous launches, which have each gone on to put thousands of miles beneath their hulls.
The atmosphere aboard Storm is relaxed and friendly, particularly where crew interactions with the family are concerned. For example, the galley is not solely a work space. It’s also reportedly larger than you’d expect. Cantiere delle Marche says it’s on par with what you’d find aboard a 148- to 158-footer (45- to 48-meter). In the wheelhouse, three pedestal helm chairs face the dash, and an observation settee is just behind them. If someone wants lessons on how to use a VHF or other equipment, the Darwin Class megayacht has an attached radio room here.
The owner wanted the crew’s experience to be as enjoyable as his and his family’s. Their quarters contain four cabins, outfitted in walnut paneling like the guest areas.
Storm will be at the Cannes Yachting Festival alongside Stella del Nord, another Darwin Class project, plus Noga, a Nauta Air project.
