It’s no longer enough for some sailing superyacht owners to “just” race or “just” cruise. The owner who commissioned this Baltic 115, the second hull in the series from Baltic Yachts, wanted her to deliver well on both accords.
The Baltic 115 series bears naval architecture by Judel/Vrolijk and styling and interior design by Nauta Yachts. Note the vertical bow in the photo below. It’s more than just an aesthetic touch for this yacht. It allows more of the hull to be employed for accommodations, and a waterline length close to her LOA. The waterline length for this particular Baltic 115 is 106’7”, or 32.52 meters, while LOA is 114’8”, or 35 meters.
Since the owner was keen to race more than just occasionally, this Baltic 115 has a hull design and gear arranged accordingly. For example, she has transversal hydraulically controlled jib sheeting for fore, aft, inboard, and outboard trimming. As for the sail plan, here’s the rundown:
- mainsail= approx. 4, 252 square feet (395 square meters)
- genoa= approx. 3,014 square feet (280 square meters)
- gennaker= 10,118 square feet (940 square meters)
The Baltic 115 is also constructed of carbon fiber and composite, typical materials for racing yachts. Furthermore, the yacht has a lifting keel. Draft with it up is 11’10” (3.65 meters), while it’s 19’2” (5.85 meters) with the keel down.
The 26’5” (8.07-meter) beam should make for pleasant cruises when the yacht is not racing. Comfort was yet another key requirement of the owner. While we do not have photos, the interior design of the Baltic 115 features oak and light-tone linen wall panels. The mood is said to be soothing.
