Ten years after it introduced its Limited Editions series, Amels is nearly done with the engineering stage of the series’ newest offering, the Amels 188. Not “just” another Limited Editions, however, the Amels 188 is the first to employ hybrid propulsion.
Hybrid power is, by now, well-proven for lessening operational costs and the impact on the environment. Both of these concerns are, of course, ones that yachts owners and captains frequently mention. So, it comes as no surprise that the Amels 188 partly stems from the feedback the clients of its nearly 30 Limited Editions megayachts have given the shipyard. Amels therefore has been tapping the engineering knowledge of its parent company, Damen, which has built a number of hybrid-powered commercial vessels. It’s also compiled data from the voyages its clients have been taking, noting particularly when and how much the so-called hotel loads of the yachts are used. The Amels 188’s hybrid system will work alongside a heat-recovery system that Amels has already been employing aboard its deliveries to fulfill the efficiency needs.
As much as cost management and environmental consciousness are important to clients, they also want luxury. The Amels 188, which should see a 4,500-nautical-mile range at 13 knots, is showcasing the interior-design handiwork of Reymond Langton Design. This gallery gives you a well-rounded look at the 323-square-foot (30-square-meter) beach club, the “wellness center” (including a gym, sauna, and Turkish bath), nearly 861-square-foot (30-square-meter) master suite, and more.
Delivery should occur in 2018.
