With Christmas a week away, the stores are bustling with shoppers. Few, if any, of those stores carry things the superyacht set wants, however.
To help you with your holiday shopping, here are five superyacht gifts for that special someone in your life:
- MV13 tender. Commission a customized MV13 (below) from Baglietto. The hull is based on that of the military boats that Baglietto built a century ago. The styling, from Francesco Paszkowski Design, mixes megayacht elements like teak decking and a cabin, making her much more luxurious than a dayboat. LOA is 45’3” (13.8 meters), with a reported top speed of 37 knots. As for customizing the appearance, the sky may be the limit. Lapo Elkann, an entrepreneur and grandson of the famed Gianni Agnelli of Fiat fame, requested a blue-camouflage paint job on his MV13, christened Lap 1. MV13 price: upon request.
- FunAir slide. If you haven’t yet whooshed your way down from your sundeck on an inflatable slide from FunAir (top), you don’t know what you’re missing. FunAir’s adjustable yacht slide is ideal for smaller megayachts, since it’s 14’8” (4.5 meters) long when inflated. Better yet, it costs about 50 percent less than one of FunAir’s custom slides, and usually ships in two to three days. Price: $6,995.
- Mixology classes. Don’t forget to treat your crew to something special. If they’re budding bartenders, sign them up for a one-day class with Jonathan Pogash, a.k.a. the Cocktail Guru. Pogash is regularly seen on WNBC-TV in New York, as well as the Today show and other nationally broadcast programs. He’s teaching Professional Yachting Association-accredited courses on spirits, wine, and mixology at MPT’s Florida locations. Consult the MPT calendar for dates. Cost: $399.
- Chelsea Clock nautical instruments. Chelsea Clock is America’s oldest nautical clockmaster, dating to 1897. It further makes barometers and tide instruments. All are coveted by yacht and megayacht owners worldwide. Its Andover Classic features a solid forged-brass base, with a walnut base cradling the timepiece. The numerals on the dial are gold-plated and hand-fixed. This special-edition clock comes with a gift box, too. Price: $4,700.
- Cory Silken wall calendar. Silken is among the best yachting photographers, often hired by the likes of Royal Huisman, among others. Each year, Silken selects several of his favorite photos for a wall calendar. His 2016 sailing yachts calendar (above) features scenes from regattas, aerials of sailing superyachts, and stunning sunset and evening shots. Express shipping means you’ll have it for the holidays. Cost: $24.90.
