Yacht designers draw inspiration from myriad things: cars, nature, you name it. Team for Design-by Enrico Gobbi had Rome’s famed Colosseum in mind for the aptly named Colosseum concept design for Oceanco.
Team for Design-by Enrico Gobbi came up with the styling and interior design for Colosseum. Also known as DP106 (for “Design Project”), the megayacht measures 284’5” (86.7 meters). Understandably, and in keeping with the Roman amphitheater’s impressive stance, nothing about her lines says “subtle.” Enrico Gobbi, head of the design studio, particularly points to Colosseum’s aft curves and expansive glass.
Glass is a primary feature of Colosseum, in fact. It’s obviously part of the large vertical ports in the four guest and two VIP staterooms (the latter really suites). But, it’s further prominent in and around the aft-deck pool. The pool is rimmed with glass, and raised. Combine this with a 63-foot (19-meter) length, plus a decent depth. In the photo gallery below, take a close look at the pool image. Note the correlation between the glass sides and Colosseum’s side stairways. Note, too, a second glass-sided pool on the uppermost deck.
Those stairways, by the way, lead down to an interior sauna and gym. Each of those gain more light from the pool’s glass sides, plus views out over the swim platform.
Oceanco and the designers will arrange the interior as a buyer wishes. With a 46’6” (14.2-meter) beam, Colosseum provides plentiful areas to personalize. She’s intended for a party of 14. Of course, the builder and designer have suggested layouts to entice interest. These include fold-out balconies in the master suite and two VIP areas. They’re cleverly concealed in the black swath dominating Colosseum’s profile, an Enrico Gobbi signature element.
Oceanco and Azure Naval Architects, which have collaborated on a number of megayachts on the water and in concept stage, anticipate that Colosseum can see some good speed. Top end is estimated at 18½ knots, powered by twin MTU 20V 4000 engines.
