What happens when a brokerage house and a design firm put their heads together? The Dahm 120 sailing superyacht.
Dahm International and Beiderbeck Designs conceived the 120-foot (36.6-meter) fast-cruising yacht. A semi-custom project, the Dahm 120 is the first new build that the brokerage house has initiated on its own. She’ll be overseen by its team while in build at Ned Ship Group. The Dahm 120 is to be comprised of carbon fiber composite, an increasingly popular combination for sailing superyachts intended to see solid speed, particularly if racing.
Beiderbeck Designs is handing naval architecture, styling, and interior design. While a crew of six will manage the Dahm 120, hands-on owners should appreciate her, too. The design and management team say she can be sailed solo with push-button control. There’s a self-tacking furling genoa and a furling main. An opening in the hardtop lets the helmsman see the mainsail trim.
The Dahm 120 will impress fellow sailors out on the water due to about 7,319 square feet (680 square meters) of upwind sail area. It’s all supported by a 148-foot-high (45-meter-high) carbon fiber mast. Underscoring serious sailing, the Dahm 120 also carries a 10,764-square-foot (1,000-square-meter) Code 0. To keep the operational feeling intimate, the twin steering wheels are 68 feet (20.75 meters) from the bow. Note, too, that draft is a fixed 13’8” (4.2 meters), and that most winches and other gear are concealed, to avoid tripping hazards.
Whether you’ll take the helm or have your crew do it, the Dahm 120 invites guests to sit and enjoy the action. Seating accompanying the helm stations can face leeward or windward. The ports to both sides can be removed, too, for flowing breezes. If you’re inclined to more privacy, though, the Dahm 120 lets the cockpit and saloon be separated. Regardless, the crew have access directly to their cabins and mess from the cockpit, too.
You and your guests have access to abundant conversation and relaxation areas. The 29’5” (9-meter) beam makes spaces like the bright saloon (below) more welcoming. Unusual for her LOA, the Dahm 120 has a cinema (at top). It’s directly opposite the dining area, to starboard. Imagine watching your favorite flicks or your kids playing video games on the 65-inch screen.
Also unusual: Dahm International and Beiderbeck Designs say the sailing superyacht can become wheelchair-accessible. A wheelchair lift can go amidships. It can further connect to one of the two VIP staterooms. (Four guest staterooms are aboard, with two twins complementing the VIPs.)
Naturally, the master suite, forward on the Dahm 120, is meant to impress. The king-size bed is centered beneath a skylight. Should you need to work, the office has a wireless network and the latest communications connections.
Alfresco enjoyment comes in many forms aboard. A fold-out Opacmare platform reveals an intimate beach club with a head (including a shower). Cocktails and canapes, even full-fledged meals can be enjoyed aft on the main deck. There’s a handy barbecue back here, along with a mini fridge. (On a related note, this is the only area where you can sit with the chef: The Dahm 120 places the galley below decks. A dumbwaiter does the duty of bringing food up.)
The Dahm 120 should start construction upon signing of a contract.
