The just-concluded St. Barths Bucket saw Perini Navi sailing superyachts take top honors in two of the competitive classes.
The ketch Rosehearty and the sloop P2 stepped onto the podium for the Grandes Dames des Mers and the Elegantes des Mers, respectively. These two classes were the only ones, among six total, that Perini Navi yachts raced in. (Among the reasons: a division was reserved for J Class yachts.) The three days of competition were no cakewalks, however, despite Rosehearty winning on both day one and two, of three overall. In fact, she started fifth on day one. Her fellow St. Barths Bucket competitors made her earn her win over the 24-mile course.
As for P2, the longer 28-mile course for her class saw her come in second the first day. She took first the following day. After day two of the St. Barths Bucket wound down, P2’s tactician, Tony Rey, said, “These last two races have been some of the best superyacht racing I’ve ever done.” He also mentioned, “The owner and his guests were so engaged and so into the race; everyone was excited.”
That latter statement hints at something that makes the St. Barths Bucket so special. Several owners come to the race with friends and family in tow. Others participate in the action onboard their boats, too.
