It should come as no surprise that a new report finds that Americans remain the most significant segment of the megayacht-buying public. But what may surprise you is the number of overall megayacht owners worldwide: just 1,500. So say Camper & Nicholsons and Wealth-X, a specialist in compiling data on ultra-high-net-worth individuals. The two companies have produced “The State of Wealth, Luxury and Yachting” to better analyze the changing world of yacht ownership and how wealthy individuals spend their leisure dollars.
We take a look at this report in our April newsletter, which went out to subscribers earlier this week. In particular, we highlight how the report finds that yacht owners are increasingly seeking experiences. Yachts are bought and chartered not for the sake of using a luxury product. Rather, they’re sought because they make it possible to go places, particularly lesser-traveled ones. “Hunting for unique experiences makes a person unique, much more than owning material goods,” the report says. This explains why polar regions are rising in popularity and the western Med continues to lose favor.
We’re letting newsletter subscribers obtain a copy of “The State of Wealth, Luxury and Yachting” for a limited time, directly from us.
Also in the April newsletter, we take a look at limited-edition America’s Cup-themed accessories, plus update you on the massive refit of the megayacht Delma (pictured). She is a short time away from re-delivery, and much bigger than her initial mega-size length.
