Talk about a happy accident: A German photographer happened to be in flight at the same time as Dilbar was conducting sea trials late last week. While she only captured this one image, it’s one of the best we’ve seen so far of the nearly completed Lürssen-built megayacht.
Dilbar began construction as project Omar. Lürssen, and others associated with the build, have not been permitted to reveal details about her. Most sources have been citing her LOA as 512 feet (156 meters). Publicly available AIS data confirms this.
The sea trials last week continued through the weekend. They were the latest in a series that have been going on since February. A yacht spotter captured the footage below in early March. To better understand her scale, look for the people standing at Dilbar’s bow, and then the small crowd on her aft deck:
A little more about Dilbar, thanks to AIS data:
- draft is 19’4” (7.9 meters)
- gross tonnage is 15,917
- her beam is the equivalent of a small superyacht itself: 78’7” (24 meters)
- her speed during the weekend’s sea trials averaged about 12 knots and peaked at nearly 24 knots.
Given the name “Dilbar,” her owner is Alisher Usmanov. The Russian business magnate has a variety of business holdings, including steel. He’s also a repeat yacht owner, and repeat Lürssen customer at that. His first Dilbar was delivered in 2008, and while quite a significant superyacht, smaller in comparison. Now known as Ona, she measures 361 feet (110 meters).
