You’ve heard of raising the roof—now imagine it in three different positions. Xtenders created this 30’5” (9.3-meter) tender to convert in multiple ways for a megayacht’s owners who are using the boat for multiple exploits.
Xtenders, which custom-crafts carbon-fiber tenders, teamed with Vripack and StrucTeam, a composite-technology specialist, for the project. Together, they engineered the boat to keep weight manageable for the mothership (a Feadship) while simultaneously ensuring swift speeds. Xtenders says the boat can top out at 39 knots and cruise at 25 knots with a single Mercury stern drive. Waterjets at the bow and stern make her extra maneuverable, too.
Speaking of maneuvering, the crew can access the engine compartment even when the tender is in her garage. Furthermore, that garage has restricted height. The garage door is just 5’4” (1.65 meters), in fact. So, Xtenders designed the boat with a folding console and hinged engine hatch that both can be handled even with the limited overhead space.
That limited space additionally dictated a retractable roof. That’s nothing new for tenders, but the way Xtenders did it reportedly is. Even with retractable roofs, most tenders still are too tall for the shallow opening of this particular Feadship’s garage. Xtenders therefore has two individually actuated roofs, which the company refers to as a coachroof and a bimini. Both can retract into the hull. This keeps the tender’s stowed height to 5’1” (1.55 meters).
The two roofs raise into different positions at the press of a button. Both the coachroof and the bimini can rise flush with the windscreen, as seen above. This turns the Xtenders boat into a traditional limousine tender. Twelve passengers can then enjoy the recessed interior, benefitting from a beam of 10’3” (3.15 meters). They can enjoy more fresh breezes when the bimini roof is raised, via its pantographic supports, up over the aft deck. That configuration is in the photo below. A sun awning can additionally extend from the bimini roof to cover the rest of the aft deck. (Recall the stowed height mentioned above. The fully raised bimini roof makes this Xtenders stand 6’2”, or 1.9 meters.)
Additional custom features aboard this Xtenders boat include LEDs in the interior, to set different moods. The interior is further climate controlled and puts multimedia options at guests’ disposal. Out on deck, the transom can fold down for swimmers’ convenience. And, the aft deck can hold just a few friends and family, should the owners so wish. It’s due to Xtenders creating convertible seating. Two benches can install in three positions, or be kept off the boat entirely.
