St. Maarten is getting another marina. June 1 marks the groundbreaking for Porto Maho, overlooking Simpson Bay Lagoon. It’s being touted as a residential development with St. Maarten’s largest megayacht marina.
Intended to resemble popular European waterfront villages and yacht clubs, Porto Maho will include two residential areas (below), with a total of 25 homes. Ten of them will also have private docks. Custom storage for watertoys ranging from kayaks to personal submarines can be created, too. The homes will be complemented by a village-like area containing restaurants, specialty markets, shops, banks, and a members-only gym.
These, in turn, will be anchored by what Porto Maho’s developers call “the destination’s largest megayacht marina.” Construction on the first phase of the marina should begin in the third quarter this year. No specifics are available on maximum LOA or total slips. A spokesperson for Porto Maho tells us that the capacity will depend on the final marina configuration. She explains that the first phase will see slips for yachts up to 100 feet (about 30.5 meters). “The next phase will accommodate larger yachts,” she adds.
In the meantime, Porto Maho’s developers say 40 percent of the roads and other infrastructure for the community are already finished. Porto Maho is also five minutes from Maho Village, known for its duty-free shopping, spa, and global dining options. Maho Village and Porto Maho share the same developer, too.
Home sites being built into the hillside start at $600,000. The waterfront estates that include the docks start at $3.1 million.
