Following a year’s worth of upgrades, Turquoise Yachts can now build more boats and transfer projects between its two locations.
Depending on LOA, Turquoise Yachts can construct 10 megayachts at the same time. It’s due to doubling the size of its build shed in Kocaeli, Turkey, not far from Istanbul. The shed is now 541 feet long by 131 feet wide by 95 feet high (165 meters by 40 meters by 29 meters, respectively). To put this new building into better perspective, Turquoise Yachts says three 262-foot (80-meter) megayachts can fit side by side in it. That’s the upper size that the yard intends to pursue. Its focus, as outlined in late 2014 when new ownership stepped in, starts at 131 feet (40 meters). You may remember that Turquoise Yachts’ ownership is the same as that of Oceanco, MB Holding Company, run by Mohammed al-Barwani.
Turquoise Yachts recently completed another enhancement of its facilities. It’s a floating dock with a capacity of 2,500 tons. The dock can lift and transport megayachts between Koceli and the other yard in Pendik, also near Istanbul. Turquoise Yachts built the floating dock itself, too:
This floating dock will be used for both motoryachts and sailing yachts. It’s fitted with a removable soft patch in the central ballast tank purposely for lifting keels and centerboards.
The upgrades understandably are meant to make Turquoise Yachts more attractive to international buyers. The builder does a lot of work in house, including construction of its own hulls and superstructures. Some other European yards subcontract hulls. Turquoise Yachts additionally performs stone cutting in house, another specialty often subcontracted.
