What happens when yacht owners equip their explorer with a quarter-million-dollar entertainment system? They get the Outer Reef 24M Motoryacht, a customized version of one of the builder’s biggest long-range cruisers.
Debuting at the Cannes Yachting Festival, the Outer Reef 24M is for a European family who raise onboard entertaining to an art form. They are passionate about fine food and wine as they are about music. That explains the kitted-out galley aboard this 78’8” yacht. It also explains the bar and $280,000 entertainment system in the saloon. Outer Reef likens the sound system to concert-hall quality.
These are just a few of the tailored features requested by the owners. They liked the style and performance promises of the Outer Reef 800, a 78’8” cruiser. The latter yacht, as with all Outer Reef models, stands up to sloppy conditions and has long range. The owners kept the same hull design for their Outer Reef 24M. She reportedly will achieve 2,300 nautical miles at 8.3 knots. At 10 knots, she should see an equally good 1,875 nautical miles. (Top speed should be 14½ knots.) Power comes from twin Caterpillar C12s.
Wherever they cruise, the owners can take along a crowd. Ten guests can gather together on the saloon’s U-shape settee. It’s in perfect proximity to the above-mentioned entertainment system and bar, too, plus the galley. Wenge and walnut woods make the room feel warm and welcoming. With a 21-foot (6.4-meter) beam and headroom of 6’8” (2.07 meters), the saloon has an even better ambiance.
The Outer Reef 24M is an owner-operable yacht, like the 800, so the galley is open to the helm. (Berths for a captain and three crew are optional.) Similarly, the teak-laid flying bridge keeps a convivial atmosphere. A second helm is within eye- and earshot of the 10-person seating area. Food flows ready up here as well, thanks to a barbecue.
Speaking of food, the owners can serve the catch of the day. They requested Outer Reef install a fighting chair on the aft deck.
When fully satiated, guests get to retire to two VIPs below decks. The owners have a full-beam stateroom down here as well.
