Keeping more of its customers in the family, Viking Yachts is building hull number one of the 82 Cockpit Motor Yacht. Called the Viking 82 CMY for short, she’s actually just shy of 85 feet LOA, at 84’9” (25.83 meters). And, while she isn’t the New Jersey-based builder’s biggest boat, she does expand its lineup more into megayacht territory.
For the record, Viking’s largest model is the 92 Enclosed Bridge Convertible, introduced in 2014. (It also has an open-bridge 92 Convertible.) She’s a sportfishing machine through and through. To say she’s successful, too, is an understatement. The owner of hull number 11 of the enclosed-bridge series recently took delivery. The yacht will appear at the Fort Lauderdale show in November. Orders exist for hulls 12 to 15 as well, with each yacht currently in different stages of construction.
The Viking 82 CMY complements the existing 75 Motor Yacht. The cockpit lets her do double duty on the fishing grounds. That’s why the observation mezzanine has concealed tackle and gear wells. It also explains the molded transom fishbox, plus the transom door with a lift gate. But, plenty of cruising clients like the space that a cockpit affords. It’s plenty spacious, at 108 square feet (10 square meters). The mezzanine bins can alternately hold snorkeling or dive gear. And, the transom door provides perfect access to the teak swim platform. Returning guests can grab a cool beverage from the drinks boxes in the port and starboard stairways (as long as one isn’t being used for bait).
Like the 92 sportfisherman series, the Viking 82 CMY comes with either an open or enclosed bridge. Order the open configuration, and you can barbecue for your friends and family. You and your guests can also stretch out on sunpads, and set up lounge chairs. The enclosed-bridge 82 CMY creates a cozy skylounge aft of the helm, while preserving some alfresco space for lounging and a small tender.
Regardless of your choice, the Viking 82 CMY has a walnut-lined interior and four-stateroom layout below decks. That includes the full-beam (20’6”, or 6.25-meter) master stateroom. Viking’s in-house interior department works with clients to select all the soft goods and furnishings. Atlantic Marine Electronics, also owned by Viking, customizes helms to clients’ liking, too.
The standard power package for the Viking 82 CMY: twin 1,550-mhp MAN V12s. Three optional engine packages, each with higher horsepower, are from MAN, Caterpillar, and MTU. Anticipated performance figures aren’t available.
