“Happy New Year” takes on a whole new meaning for one particular yacht owner from Germany. Come February, he’s taking delivery of his fifth Horizon, christened Abaco.
Abaco is a Horizon CC110, with “CC” standing for “Custom Collection.” This designates Horizon motoryachts tailored well beyond the usual semi-custom touches. (You might remember another CC110, Lady Gaga.) The owner of Abaco started with the profile, having Beiderbeck Designs collaborate with Horizon’s naval architects to create a raised pilothouse. The 110-footer further has near all-around visibility on each deck.
Beiderbeck Designs also worked with Horizon’s designers for space planning and decor. Big parties are on order for Abaco, considering 20 guests can sit along the saloon’s starboard side. The owner plans to press the saloon and formal dining area jointly into use for such events. The main-deck galley makes the crew’s job of serving hors d’oeuvres and lavish meals simpler.
The Custom Collection concept also comes into play below decks, in a quite unusual way. Abaco has just two guest staterooms here. The master stateroom is, however, where you’d expect, full beam (23’6”) on the main deck.
The unusual stateroom total hints at another purpose for Abaco: family time. The generations will mostly gather for meals on the aft deck or flying bridge. They can lounge and sun up top, too. Even with a hardtop, Abaco offers flexibility for the space, due to an electric sliding center.
Off-boat adventures are on the future family itinerary as well. The crew can launch the 16’5” tender, with the assistance of the lowering swim platform. They can also take out dive gear for the guests. When free of toys, Abaco’s garage can become a beach club. That should surely be appreciated in the shallow anchorages that she can reach. The CC110 has a draft just shy of five feet. Though Horizon hasn’t divulged the anticipated performance, power comes from 2,600-hp MTUs.
