Following Amels’ announcement nearly two years ago that it’s offering Full Custom megayachts with its Limited Editions projects, we’re getting a look at one such custom yacht. It’s from Nick Mezas of Nick Mezas Yacht Design. This is the first time he and the Dutch yard have partnered.
The designer says the 243-footer draws inspiration from a number of Amels deliveries. The foundation is a yacht meant to enhance the views whether guests are inside or outside. Low bulwarks on each deck aid in this respect. The bulwarks also come inward as the lines flow aft, starting at slanted “knuckles” on the sundeck and bridge deck. You can see the effect pretty well in the image above. Mezas says this maximizes natural lighting inside. It also lets the owners see more when in the master suite, comprising 2,583 square feet on the bridge deck.
That spaciousness concept is important to Mezas and Amels. They want the 12 guests to feel unfettered wherever they choose to gather onboard. The square footage of the owners’ deck surely will convey that sensation. It has a private lounge, along with an office, should work matters arise. Forward, guests are welcome to watch shorelines approach from a shaded seating area. Mezas includes large lounging areas fully aft, too, along with sunning space. The aft deck space serves as a helipad if so needed as well. To put all the spaces into perspective: Beam is 41 feet.
Guest staterooms should be plenty comfortable. Two VIPs sit on the main deck, while three cabins are below decks. The latter staterooms could easily be most desirable, since they have access to a wellness area and beach club. Mezas designed this Amels with a fold-down platform for boarding watertoys or just enjoying the scenery.
Yachts aren’t always all about relaxing. Mezas must have had this in mind when he conceived the aft main deck. It doubles as a dance floor. The 243-footer has 1,937 square feet of space to boogie or imbibe, thanks to a bar. Friends and family can party around (and maybe even in) the 21-foot-long pool here, too.
Since the project is a custom yacht, interested clients can choose the creature comforts and technical systems underpinning them. However, Amels and Mezas estimate that maximum speed will be 16.5 knots, and best range will be 5,000 nautical miles at 12.5 knots.
