In recognition that different owners have different tastes, the Reichel/Pugh studio has two different new design proposals. The 200’ Classic should tug at the heartstrings of traditionalists, while the 55M Modern should thrill competitive racers who still seek luxury.
Reichel/Pugh based the 200’ Classic on the famed Hetairos, delivered in 2011 by Baltic Yachts. With Dykstra Naval Architects, the studio designed a yacht that looks quite the traditional cruiser above the water. Interestingly, though, her carbon-composite hull makes her a fast, regatta-winning performance yacht, too. Similarly, the 200’ Classic features modern, performance-enhancing characteristics. Reichel/Pugh plans to test hull shapes to ensure the ultimate owner gets the right blend of action and aesthetics. Regardless, the studio adds, today’s construction techniques mean lower displacement and reduced sailing loads. Displacement should be about 309 tons.
Furthermore, the 200’ Classic offers her owner accommodations for six family and friends plus eight crew. In a suggested layout, the yacht separates one of the three guest staterooms from the rest, making more of a VIP experience. The master suite benefits from the full beam (37’7”, or 11.5 meters) and has access out to a private cockpit. The 200’ Classic lets guests enjoy an alfresco ambiance while dining. They also can enjoy some of the sailing activities, since the dining table is nestled between the two helms.
With the 55m Modern (above), meanwhile, Reichel/Pugh takes a totally different approach. One look at her lines, and it’s clear she’s for those with contemporary tastes. The 180-footer is also all about taking no prisoners in regattas. Reichel/Pugh pledges to provide “performance not seen before in a superyacht.” Even with that, the 55m Modern will exude luxury throughout the accommodations for 10 in the owner’s party. Highlights include lots of lounging space inside and out, and a concealed tender bay forward. She boasts a beam of 34’8”.
