Megayacht News was founded in 2007 by Diane M. Byrne, one of the best-known and highly respected yachting journalists worldwide. She continues to operate the site today, overseeing all aspects of content creation and design. She has been covering megayachts since 1993 and is closely involved with the leading professional organizations not just in the yachting field, but also in journalism and entrepreneurship:
- a longtime International Superyacht Society member, joining the organization in 1995; since 2010, she has served on the Board of Directors
- a founding member of the United States Superyacht Association
- since 2003, an active member of the Association for Women in Communications, which presented her with a prestigious Clarion Award for Best Feature Writing
- since 2012, an active member of the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners and the New Jersey Business & Industry Association.
In 2012, Megayacht News welcomed Capt. Tork Buckley as a contributor, until his untimely death late that year.
