Just as Sting and Trudie Styler rang in 2008 in style, so, too, did movie producer Harvey Weinstein and his new wife Georgina Chapman. They chartered the 157-foot Lady Joy to enjoy the past two weeks in St. Barts. Weinstein is a familiar face this time of year on the island nation, which transforms into Hollywood South for the holidays: Domestic diva Martha Stewart, singer/songwriter Billy Joel, and supermodel Linda Evangelista are among those who have been spotted both in recent years and recent days.
Weinstein’s and Chapman’s plans aboard Lady Joy were almost thwarted by the one-day fuel-strike blockade put on by local fishermen, but if gossip pages’ reports are any indication, the couple have been enjoying the yacht so much that they’ve yet to emerge (nudge nudge, wink wink).
Lady Joy, built by Christensen Shipyards, has a few features that make her special. As you can see in this dining room shot, she boasts terrific artwork. And instead of having four guest staterooms plus an owner’s suite, the way the rest of the 155- and 157-footers built by Christensen do, she has five guest staterooms. Her owner, socialite/songwriter/political powerhouse Denise Rich, likes entertaining large groups of people, so she requested that the builder make the customized change. And I can attest to how well the setup works, as I toured the yacht in October.
I also landed the first interview with Rich, just after she took delivery of the yacht. You can download the podcast via iTunes (search for “Power & Motoryacht podcast,” click on the TV icon, then select “Denise Rich interview” from the list) or listen to it via this link.
