The 200-foot (61-meter) megayacht in build at Hakvoort Shipyard known as YN 248 is a beehive of activity. With new owners having stepped in to acquire her earlier this year, the Dutch builder is striving to have her ready for launch by the end of July.
During a shipyard visit earlier this month, we saw some of the changes the new owners requested. Primarily, they’re tonal changes to the wall paneling. The original owner for YN 248, a Russian client, requested a rich, classic wood stain. The new owners, while retaining Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design for the general arrangement and decor, prefer light tones. The shipyard’s craftspeople were therefore sanding and respraying the paneling during our tour.
The owners of YN 248, experienced Americans who’ve enjoyed cruising aboard a few smaller megayachts in recent years, have further requested a few room configurations. What was previously to have been a dance floor on the bridge deck of YN 248 will now be a family room. It’s because the clients enjoy travels with their grown children and grandchildren. Another switch: A hammam planned for inside the transom will now be a gym. It’s situated just aft of the tender garage, which isn’t changing. YN 248 should tote two 29’5” (9-meter) tenders and two PWCs, launched to either side.
Also not changing: all guest suites on the main deck. There are five in total, including the VIP. The owners of YN 248 have a private deck area one level up. It includes a bar, seating area, and study, with the suite occupying the full beam (36 feet, or 11 meters). The crew accommodations, for 15 people in eight cabins, are remaining untouched, too. One of the cabins contains a single bunk, for times when YN 248 needs a pilot or the family needs a nanny.
Speaking of the nanny, she and the grandchildren are sure to spend a good deal of time on the sundeck. YN 248 contains a contraflow pool here with mosaic work. The wife half of the owners selected the design herself (along with the rest of the yacht). It depicts an underwater sea scene.
On an interesting side note, YN 248 was the first project signed following Hakvoort’s facilities expansion a few years ago. The expansion allows it to tackle megayachts up to 213 feet (65 meters) LOA… though height is still restricted, as you can see from the photo above. Without her arch in place, YN 248 is just about at the rafters. The final upper structures will be added once the yacht is floated out of her shed.
