The six models in the Azimut Flybridge Collection, a.k.a. the Fly series, will see a new large sistership. The Azimut 78 Fly helps customers of the Italian yard stay in the family longer, stepping up in size gradually. Simultaneously, the new yacht is the first Flybridge from a noted designer and first featuring a special propulsion system.
Originally termed the Azimut 76 Fly, the yacht measures 77’6” (23.64 meters). The name change is more suitable to that size. Even though the yacht shares carbon fiber construction with her smaller sisters and the 80 Fly, she does have differences. For instance, styling is by Alberto Mancini of AM Yacht Design. This marks his first collaboration on the Flybridge Collection. The lines are elongated, while still familiar.
Another difference is that the Azimut 78 Fly features triple Volvo Penta IPS propulsion. The system occupies less space onboard than conventional engines, plus is more fuel efficient. When Azimut first announced the yacht as the 76 Fly, it did not disclose specifics on the propulsion system. Now, however, it reveals that you can choose between two different IPS packages, either the Volvo Penta IPS1200 or Volvo Penta IPS1350. Both are powered by the D13 diesel. Both additionally offer top speeds to 30 knots.
With an 18’9” (5.75-meter) beam, the Azimut 78 Fly provides two interior configuration choices, too. You’ll see the Lounge design on hull number one. (No name yet for the other design.) In this, Achille Salvagni eliminated bulkheads separating the dining and lounging areas on the main deck. He further eliminates virtual barriers between the two by making the dining table convertible to a coffee table.
Regardless of layout choice, you will appreciate the crew area if you don’t plan to take the wheel. It’s forward below decks with direct access to the helm and galley up above. Your stateroom as well as the three other guest staterooms still maintain privacy aft of here. Alfresco areas are private, too, like the foredeck sitting/sunning spot (at top).
