Ahead of her global debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival this year, the first hull of the Riva 82 Diva yacht series is in the water in Italy. While she bears the classic styling hallmarks of her predecessors, the project promises extra usable relaxation space for her configuration, especially outside.
The Riva 82 Diva yacht is part of the shipyard’s Flybridge range, which includes models like the 90 Argo, 110 Dolcevita, and 130 Bellissima. All Flybridge range yachts and megayachts, like all Rivas, bear the styling work of Officina Italiana Design, combined with the naval architecture of the Ferretti Group Engineering Department. The alfresco areas have received a significant amount of attention. In fact, according to Riva, the flying bridge is among the largest available for this LOA. It’s 431 square feet (40 square meters). Up here, the 82-foot (25-meter) megayacht lets you dine and enjoy cocktails beneath the carbon fiber hardtop, with skylights. Additionally, you can stretch out in the sun fully forward, or sit and enjoy the ride fully aft.
Yet another larger-than-expected area aboard is the open-air beach club. Large hatches to each side fold down, adding nearly 10 feet (3 meters) of deck space for leaping into the water or boarding watertoys. (Stow an 11-foot/3.5-meter jet tender in the dedicated garage, along with a smaller toy like a SeaBob.) When the platforms are down, the sense of space in combination with the raised aft deck is impressive. The latter, nicely outfitted with aft-facing settees, is nearly 377 square feet (35 square meters).

Accommodating eight people including yourself below decks, the Riva 82 Diva yacht strives for an equally airy feeling inside. Specifically, the dining area is elevated, therefore benefitting more from the all-around views. Cutouts in the bulwarks enhance the views, too. Additionally, the design team flanks the stairs leading up to the flying bridge with glass, to eliminate solid barriers.
Following Riva tradition, the Riva 82 Diva yacht offers a choice of engine package. Select either twin 1,800-hp MANs or twin 1,900-hp MANs, depending on the performance you desire. The first package should allow a 29-knot maximum speed and a 26-knot cruising speed. The second package, meanwhile, pushes the figures to 31 and 27 knots, respectively.
If you get aboard at the Cannes Yachting Festival, take note of the higher gunwales as you move about on deck. It’s a nice safety feature, further with painted composite versus stainless steel handrails.
