While the yacht-building brands of The Italian Sea Group enjoy high profiles, a further brand gets less attention. NCA Refit, operating in Marina di Carrara and La Spezia, Italy, performs maintenance and refits on both power and sailing superyachts. Due to the number of sailing yachts currently at its facilities, NCA Refit is virtually “a yard of masts,” in its words.
Although the yard’s management team doesn’t specify how many are on site presently, the yard did have 10 sailing superyachts simultaneously undergoing work through the end of 2023. Additionally, eight of those 10 were Perini Navi projects. (The Italian Sea Group acquired Perini Navi in December 2021.) Among them, the well-known Fidelis wrapped up work right before Christmas. The 184-footer (56-meter) had a lengthy task list. Changes took place throughout her interior, for example, plus technical upgrades went aboard. Her sails underwent service as well.
NCA Refit can host a high number of projects concurrently due to the size of its shipyards. The La Spezia site offers 344,445 square feet (32,000 square meters) of on-land and in-water space. Marina di Carrara’s facilities, meanwhile, are far larger. They encompass about 1.3 million square feet (120,000 square meters). Two hoists, of 260 tons and 820 tons, address hauling and relaunching needs. Furthermore, upwards of 50 engineers, interior designers, and other service personnel are direct employees. Subcontractor specialists arrive daily on each site, too.
While new-build and refit yards often provide yacht crew with enjoyable amenities, NCA Refit has ones comparable to owner and guest areas. The shipyard set aside a “crew village,” with lodging, dining, and entertaining features, next door to the work areas. Among the amenities are a bar, a pool table lounge, a spa, and a gym. Captains and crew can take advantage of a concierge team as well, who can recommend regional activities. They can book trips to some of the most famous tourist destinations in Italy, and more.
