UPDATE, OCTOBER 18, 2024: Following Holterman Shipyard filing for bankruptcy one week ago, a fellow Dutch builder has taken over operations. Steeler Yachts, located 10 minutes away and a self-described fierce competitor for years, is rehiring many of the former employees. Steeler Yachts will use the facilities to expand production capability to address growing orders. Additionally, it says renowned for fully custom yachts and superyachts to 100 feet (30.48 meters), like the one below, will remain the focus. It has not indicated whether the Holterman X95 yacht series has landed a buyer yet.

Few megayachts in the 95-foot (29-meter) range can carry a nearly 20-foot (6-meter) tender. Similarly, few of this size have a main-deck owners’ suite with a private alfresco area. These are more are the promises of the Holterman X-95 yacht, still in development but ready for client input at the Dutch shipyard.
Holterman and designer Bernd Weel created the series to which the new project belongs, the Xtreme range. With mostly sub-superyacht sizes, the range actually started with the X-105 megayacht model, which saw its first delivery, Lady Fleur, in 2022. But, there’s a large leap in length between the X-105 and the next-closest model, the X-78. “We thought it would be nice, instead of having a client come to us, if we developed it together,” Weel explains, referring to how the X-95 came about. Of course, Holterman Shipyard and Weel incorporated feedback each had received from owners over the years, too.

Among the ideas the studio and shipyard brought to the table: building the all-aluminum project to class notation. (Classification-society compliance isn’t required.) Secondly, abundant alfresco space was a must, as was an ample-enough interior for five staterooms. “We also really wanted to design the yacht to be optimized for potential charter, so the integration of captain and crew has been paramount,” Weel further notes.
Simultaneously, Holterman Shipyard and Weel wanted the project to stand out even more. That therefore explains the tender garage capable of holding the above-mentioned 20-footer. Yet another example is the master suite’s private alfresco area forward. Add in a full-beam saloon as well—with picture-window glass to each side, naturally—and sundeck configurations built to suit.

With an anticipated top speed of 22 to 24 knots, the Holterman X-95 yacht should also have good range. The shipyard predicts 1,800 nautical miles at a swifter cruise than most, 15 knots with traditional-shaft engines meeting IMO standards.
Robbert Holterman, the shipyard CEO, says the design is fitting for the yard’s 60th anniversary this year. “It really is the culmination of everything we have done and everything we have learned over six decades of building exceptional yachts,” he says.
