The newest model in the Sunseeker lineup boasting more volume than competitors’ offerings has made a splash, literally. The first Sunseeker Ocean 156 yacht lowered into the water earlier in the week.
The 156-gross-ton megayacht looks and feels airy thanks to how the shipyard approached engineering. Firstly, the 21-foot (6.56-meter) beam for her 82 feet (25 meters) of length certainly helps. So, too, does incorporating three decks—three fully usable decks. Some motoryacht designs try to convince you they’re multiple levels, but they unfortunately have a tiny flying bridge or sundeck. The uppermost level aboard the Sunseeker Ocean 156 yacht includes the enclosed wheelhouse and seating/lounging areas fully forward and aft.
Since interior work is ongoing, full looks at the deck spaces aren’t yet available. However, the Ocean 156 yacht ambience, by Design Unlimited, promises to amplify the volume. For instance, fixed non-structural bulkheads are gone wherever possible, especially on the main deck. This therefore allows open-plan living. Secondly, the design team and Sunseeker decided that loose furnishings, rather than built-in pieces, would preserve the airiness. Even though each hull is for customers to tailor to their likings, no one should feel the saloon or other rooms are cramped.
Even though Sunseeker isn’t specifying what exactly hull number one looks like inside, we’re anticipating that the builder and Design Unlimited chose a popular arrangement for the galley. Specifically, it’s mostly open, preserving the sightlines fore to aft and acting more like a casual, homey spot.
Sea trials are underway, expected to confirm a top speed of 25 knots. The first Sunseeker Ocean 156 yacht will then be ready for her global premiere at the Southampton International Boat Show next month.
