Q: Which CRN superyachts are currently under construction?
A: The Ancona Superyacht Yard is the Ferretti Group hub for made-to-measure and fully custom yachts over 30 meters. Here CRN designs, engineers, and builds fully custom mega and superyachts from 50 to 95 meters. Currently 4 CRNs in steel and aluminum are under construction.
Firstly, the 67-meter Project Maranello combines CRN’s design and know-how with the experience and creativity of Nuvolari Lenard. With taut, fluid, aerodynamic lines and a potent sense of style, she will launch in early 2025. Moran Yacht & Ship has played a key role as the owner’s representative and continues to assist the client. It’s handling project management and on-site supervision and coordinating the external suppliers.
CRN M/Y 144 is the new flagship megayacht, with a length overall of 86 meters. CRN Engineering is responsible for her naval architecture. The exteriors are designed in collaboration with Vallicelli Design.
The 70-meter Project Thunderball is another example of highly innovative naval architecture by CRN Engineering. Exterior styling is by Vripack, and interiors and outdoor furniture are by Nauta Design. The hull arrived last May in Ancona with a spectacular movement by barge. The leading brokerage and management company Y.CO is supporting the owner through construction to technical checks, inspection, and acceptance.
The most recently signed yacht is the 67-meter Project 146. A combination of innovation, finest craftsmanship, and sophisticated naval engineering by CRN, in partnership with Nuvolari Lenard. This project, like Project Maranello, has solutions from electrohydraulic drives to heat recouperation for hot water to reduce its carbon footprint. Moran Yacht & Ship is playing a key role as the owner’s representative and project-management team. Its New Construction team negotiated the building contract, drew up the technical specifications, and supervises the entire build.
Q: What has CRN recently focused on bringing to market in terms of innovations?
A: The shipyard continues to work towards conscious yacht design, entailing innovative solutions to enhance efficiency without compromising on the highest standards of onboard living. For example, Project Maranello has a state-of-the-art hybrid propulsion system. The yacht sails with the main engines only or with the gensets only, for greater energy efficiency. She also has a heat-recovery system to supply hot water to the swimming pools and to the deck-washing system. This reduces the energy impact and costs, while ensuring prompt and efficient service. Additionally, Project Thunderball has a Peak Shaving System. It’s an energy-storage system that keeps the electricity curve as flat as possible. Simultaneously, it controls the utilities onboard, allowing operations in silent mode when anchored.
In terms of design and engineering, the 60-meter Comfortably Numb is a unicum, a supremely innovative and high-performance superyacht. Her generous living areas convey a powerful sense of spaciousness. Simultaneously, they help achieve the exacting weight and speed requirements, including a top speed of over 25 knots.
Finally, RINA has certified our Sustainable Powered Yacht (SuP-Y) project. Our engineering team put in a great effort of R&D. The purpose is to determine a sustainable architecture with the most efficient implementation of fuel-cell technology aboard a CRN superyacht. Fuell cells convert hydrogen into electrical power. A coordinated effort by Ferretti Group Super Yacht Division, Weichai Power Science & Technology Division, and RINA has made it possible.
Q: What about the actual market? What makes CRN recognizable among others?
A: Superyacht demand seems to be stabilizing after a decade-long decline of approximately four percent per year. According to data from SYBAss, if trends persist, 383 superyacht launches will occur over the next five years.
A crucial aspect for CRN’s strategy is the ability to have the right team for efficient project management. This ensures that clients get the most in terms of price, design, build quality, and timing. This happens especially for yachts over 50 meters, and it’s something very distinctive, not only in the Italian market. Thanks to the expertise of our technical employees, we work with versatile platforms, external partners, and subcontractors. Commitment to full customization and flexibility distinguishes CRN. True custom is in our DNA and reflects in projects and innovations that subsequently other shipyards have taken up. This confirms the brand as a leading trendsetter.
Innovation drives our superyacht design and construction. Superyachts such as RIO, Comfortably Numb, and Njoy continue to represent CRN’s ability to meet the highest standards, to design and build pure custom creations since 1963.
