At 111 feet (33.9 meters) in length, the Mangusta GranSport 34 yacht is the entry-level model in Mangusta’s sporty fast-displacement range. But she’s plenty large enough for the American family that will begin cruising aboard hull number one this summer.
That hull launched on April 8 at the Overmarine Group shipyard in Viareggio, Italy. The replacement for the Mangusta GranSport 33 yacht series, which resulted in 12 deliveries, she’s more than just a similar size and style. Some of the extra length accommodates an SCR system to meet international requirements for emissions. Those emission standards govern U.S. coastlines, too. Additionally, the Mangusta GranSport 34 yacht features Volvo Penta’s IPS propulsion system. It’s more compact than traditional diesels, even in the four-unit arrangement aboard this megayacht. It’s further more fuel efficient, burning on average 30 percent less fuel than conventional diesels. Better maneuverability and lower vibrations are further benefits.
What hasn’t changed, though, is the head-turning style that characterizes all Mangustas. Alberto Mancini’s design studio composed long lines that lead forward to a pointed, flared, and high bow. The overriding concept for the Mangusta GranSport 34 yacht series is to look swift and sporty, complementing the anticipated 24-knot top speed.
Mancini and his studio collaborated with the shipyard team for the interiors as well. Although the owners’ choices for this first launch remain confidential, the superyacht can accommodate up to 12 people in five staterooms. Naturally, the master stateroom is forward on the main deck, for waking up to some of the best views onboard. It occupies 435 square feet (40 square meters) and the full beam. Overall, everyone should have a bit more room on the main aft deck for breakfasts and leisure time in comparison to the Mangusta GranSport 33, due to the engine-room enlargement.
The owners aren’t the only Americans who have gravitated toward the model, either. According to Stefano Arlunno, president of Mangusta Americas, “The Mangusta GranSport 34 is being met enthusiastically overseas.” He’s not surprised, either, considering six of the 12 Mangusta Gransport 33 projects went to U.S. owners.
