A 591-foot (180-meter) drydock in Martinique can now be dedicated to megayacht refit and repair. It’s thanks to an agreement that International Marine Management (IMM) recently signed.
IMM brings together project managers to oversee refit projects of megayachts measuring 262 feet (80 meters) and larger globally. It does so by selecting a site solely devoted to your yacht, along with contractors chosen in similar fashion. The IMM team has extensive experience stemming from individual employment at European yards. The company formed to offer owners more flexible operational oversight.
IMM has already been operating in the Caribbean, via a mooring and repair base in Guadeloupe. Within its first year there, IMM says it managed drydock operations for more than 60 yachts. Tasks ranged from cleaning and repainting hulls to mast work and mechanical work.
Since the Guadeloupe drydock is 148 feet (45 meters), the Martinique drydock will allow far larger projects to be overseen. It’s located in Fort de France, in an ISPS-compliant area. It’s further the only drydock of its capacity in the region, additionally measuring 77 feet (23.5 meters) wide. Not including the blocks on the drydock floor, draft is nearly 25 feet (7.6 meters). Furthermore, the drydock has reportedly undergone structural improvements during the last several months.
IMM is well familiar with the facility, having managed a number of refits there over the past five years. The tasks that can be carried out are varied. Metal fabrication shops are on site, for example. The welders are certified by ABS, Bureau Veritas, and Lloyd’s. A mechanical subcontractor is also local. Two of IMM’s principals, Fabrice Maitre and Jean-Michel Beron, are overseeing all refit and maintenance projects there from this point forward, too.
